Introduction

Ride of a Lifetime Part II

On St Patrick’s Day 2021 we (Alan Marrs & Buck Brooks) were celebrating in Paddy Malone’s Irish Pub in Jefferson City. Little did I know it but it quickly turned into a business meeting when Big Al asked the waitress for a pen and he wrote 4/15/2022 San Francisco on a cocktail napkin. The second part of Ride of a Lifetime had been implanted in our feeble minds. As you might remember the last ride followed the Missouri Tigers football team on a three game road trip.

The guys left Columbia, MO and had one week to make the first game at Vanderbilt University in Nashville a short 463 miles. The second game was at the University of Kentucky only 229 miles away. Game three was at the University of Georgia 381 miles from Lexington. We met a LOT of GOOD folks along the way. We stayed on a houseboat of one couple on Kentucky lake. We toured Mammoth Cave where Buck ran into one of his old working buddies…..It turned out he was one of my father’s old working buddies too but I didn’t get to see him and Buck didn’t know that they knew each other.

We golfed a couple of times along the way. One night we stopped for dinner in the hometown of Turtle Man! In rural America we may have passed by a place where fighting cocks were being housed. I wanted to get a picture but NOT with two guys out on the porch. I’m wondering what we will see and who we will meet on this adventure. I’ve been having dreams about it and sure hope those don’t come true! I have made a google doc outlining the route. It’s been modified by Alan as he looked at each day’s ride on google earth at route conditions.

I’m planning on wiring two ham radios in the vehicle one of which will have APRS so we can be tracked. The second I will be able to send texts to family and friends as we won’t always be in range of cell service. We have scheduled a couple of business meetings but they’ve been cancelled due to weather. We know we will be together 4/1-4/5 as we are heading to the Final4 in New Orleans. We will hammer out the details, change the google doc, and write them in water as they will still be fluid.
