Ride Day #4 Ethel to Packwood

We were scheduled to stop at Kelly’s Kountry Kafe for breakfast. Google maps said it was closed. They guys dressed to start riding. When we arrived we were surprised to see Kelly’s was open & Nonna was in there. We were filled with knowledge again including studded tires are required on White Pass.

The discussion at our table revolved around the ride tomorrow up White Pass. we asked Nonna about a place to stay in Packwood, of course she had a recommendation.

They finished breakfast & visiting. Nonna wished them a fond farewell and said she would pray for them. They climbed on their bikes at 0840 a temperature of 41° & NO rain. They wanted 14 miles to Mossy Rock WA.

It’s going to get REAL tomorrow!

For Alan saying it was mostly flat, I think I just drove up 2 miles of climb!

Lunch at The Senior Center in Morton WA. while there we were warned to watch out for elk, that there may be groups of 5-50 cross in front of us. We were also told they would be downtown Packwood. One Lady said they would jump her fence and clean her garden out!

After lunch ride is in a rain delay!

We took a break at every little spot in the map to reevaluate the rain situation. We finally made it to Packwood our meeting spot was to be the Packwood Brewing Company….it’s closed. I’m here waiting for further instruction. I can almost see Cruisers Pizza from my location.

Shout out to Mark at Hartsburg Cycle Depot for diagnosing a noise on Alan’s bicycle over the phone.

We had to look at some “tame” elk in the city limits. When the guys were finished riding for the day we took a short drive up the pass just to get a little look see….kinda like a kid on Christmas morning.
