After a couple of team meetings, looking at the spreadsheet, and internet searches it was determined that about 40 miles of tomorrow’s ride would be on gravel. Once again we decided to deviate from the spreadsheet and reroute. The goal for today is 72 miles. We got a “late” start due to the cold temperature & time change.

1st break was close to 10 miles in. They jumped on a trail there.

After a few quick clothes change breaks they continued on. The temperature at 1245 was a cold 52° they didn’t want lunch yet because they weren’t at least 1/2 way to their destination.

They wanted 10 miles so I went ahead. The pavement turned rough & then into gravel. I beat it back up to the top of the hill before they made it to the bottom. After a quick break and team meeting we detoured and were back on the road.

I was told 4 miles till lunch time…LIES! Less than that was a dead end sign & lunch in the back of the vehicle commenced.

Lunch break was extended as we could feel the temperature drop. Checks of the radars showed rain, sleet, & snow nearby.

At 1600 they decided to ride till it rains! They got less than 2 miles and it started raining. Calling it quits at a rest area.
