They are back on their bikes at 0835 with a temperature of 42° leaving the Montana DOT Deer Creek Station. “Don’t go far we don’t know if we have the right clothes on”. I didn’t go far and they asked me if I saw the speed goats that were in the field…nope I missed them.

After a couple of stops, the temperature had jumped to 50° and full sun. At one of those stops one of the riders fell down. There was a report made to the Director of safety and then of course a defers briefing was held. They took off and about another 10 miles there was a needed bike adjustment made. Alan had to peel clothes off and put on sunscreen and they were ready for another 10 miles. On the way to the next break spot, I saw two sand hill cranes.

After lunch, we thought there was 35 miles left. They wanted 15, 10, 10. I gave them 15 and I gained signal again. They have 18 left.

Break at 1430, 18 miles to go and a temperature of 66° they wanted 10 miles or a portapotty. They got 10 miles! On the way to 10 miles, I did spot 4 speed goats along the fence line.
I may have explored a little bit waiting for them and ran into these beauties!

At the last break area they had 8.2 miles left for the day.

Day 18. (West of) White Sulphur Springs MT to Halloween MT. 74 miles. 2211 feet of climb.
Al’s quote. Today was ideal conditions. Sunny, flat and downhill sections, temps in the 60s, good roads, low traffic, and a helpful tailwind.
