Riders Up was the call at 0920 with a temperature of 65°. They were wearing their Derby Hats!

They wanted 10 miles and then another 5 miles w/o a break.
After a short break they wanted 11miles. I asked them what the goal for today was & they said 10 miles past Miles city.

A short break out of the sun and they wanted 9 miles.

The frontage road has turned to chat. I’m not sure what they will think of it. This stop is 12 miles from Miles City.

After a quick evaluation they opted to take the path more traveled. I’ll see them in 12 miles. I’m glad I’m not riding, that crosswind can’t be fun!
We pulled in to Miles City at about 1330 & a temperature of 66°. There was horse racing, a huge tennis tournament, and a city pond with lifeguard stands included. It’s lunch time and then decision time….ride on, rest then ride, ball it up. Well a decision was made that downtown was to busy and they rode on through town where a decision was made. They wanted 15 miles out of town to cut tomorrow’s ride shorter.

I went ahead and saw the dreaded chain up area 1/2 mile. I went on ahead and the climb was about 3 miles. I got back to the chain up area and broke the news to them. They said with the wind blowing the way it is they wanted the hill NOW. I told them I’d wait at the unchain area where further evaluation could occur.

When they got to the top they wanted another 7 miles. I stopped them almost 22 miles east of Miles City MT. According to the spreadsheet tomorrow’s ride is to be 57 miles.

Buck’s quote. Another easy peddling day. Al rebounded well today after yesterday’s long ride.
Al’s quote. A great tailwind (20-35 mph) helped us ride 16 miles further than planned. Weeeee!
Day 21. Forsyth MT to (East of) Miles City MT. 64 miles. 3169 feet of climb.
