Day #22 From about 22 miles east of Miles City MT to Baker MT

AND they’re off! 0815 at 51° from about 22 miles east of Miles City MT. They hadn’t gone a mile and spotted speed goats.

This picture has a LOT in it! Can you hear the prairie dogs barking? What about the song of the meadowlark?

At the top of a hill Alan said give us 5 miles but don’t stray to far. AND we are in a rain delay at 0945! Back on the bikes at 1019 with a temperature of 49°. They still did t want me to stray to far with instructions to get back to them if it started to rain again.

Message to our blog readers….”We rode Highway 12 east from about 20 miles east of mile city to Plevna probably about 40 miles total the road joints were awful on the stretch and positive probably worse than anything we’ve had all along the whole trip over 1000 miles this point it’s completely demoralizing to ride a segment like that because you have so much shock on your wrists and it’s just unrelenting; there’s no getting away from them regardless of what line you try to take. Unfortunately, we just endured that for 40 miles and it just shakes you to death. Al had his review mirror repeatedly knocked out of alignment, and his glasses bumped to the end of his nose. Now that’s bumpy!”

Alan finally got an official break!

I’ve been hearing a critter calling that I haven’t heard before. This is something you don’t get to experience driving on the interstate.

They stopped for a roadside lunch of peanut butter & jelly with a partly cloudy sky. The map shows only 13 miles to Joe MT.

We passed Ismay MT which for a few years changed its name to Joe MT.

They stopped here for a couple of minutes and looked at the DARK sky to the west and decided they had better jump back on for the final 12 miles of the day.

A look to the west at 1440

They beat the rain to Baker MT.

Buck’s quote. The road surface beat me to a pulp today. Tough day for the miles that we covered.

Al’s quote. The predicted tailwind was a moderate headwind. It broke my spirit.

Day 22. (East of) Miles City MT to Baker MT. 61 miles. 2302 feet of climb. Tough day with headwinds, jarring roadway seams, and a rain delay.
