Ride Day #24 White Butte SD to McIntosh SD

Climbing on their bikes at White Butte SD at 0816 at a temperature of 54° into a slight wind. “Late Start” due to not knowing how far they were going to ride & finding lodging. The decision was made to RIDE! In the way out to White Butte there were some big sprinkles hitting the windshield but they were not falling when they rode back through.

They wanted 8 miles & then another 8 miles. At the second stop one of them made a roadside breakfast since the motel breakfast wasn’t anything to brag about. Then they decided with only 2 bottles of water left I should head to town and get another case. They would start on another 8 miles.

Their next break is 22 miles into their ride today. The headwind is almost 19mph, I guess they are paying for yesterday’s tailwind.

They are lunch in a gem in Morristown. Phil told us there was a place to stay 10 miles away along the trail at Watauga, we found the Dakota Countryside Inn. After lunch, off they rode and found some ditch treasures along the way.

Ditch Treasures
Miles & miles of open territory

After checking into the Dakota Countryside Inn they finished their ride with 9.3 miles so the could get to an even number.

Buck’s quote. Our ride today was best characterized by Foghat’s hit “Slow Ride”.

Al’s quote. I’m windblown and tired. A tough 50 miles.

Day 24. White Butte SD to McIntosh SD. 50 miles. 1566 feet of climb. Tough, slow day with stiff winds.
