The guys are putting on sunscreen prior to today’s ride. Following Bob’s advice we are detouring around Minneapolis. The temperature is 57° at 0808. Madison in 6 days, according to the spreadsheet.

The morning started out as usual…breakfast, sunscreen, & water. THEN the monkey wrench got thrown in! I was told they would be on Hwy 7 until the 1st stop then turning east. But, I was told to go back north 4 miles to capture…

Ok, that was done. NOW to find Hwy 7. Well Hwy 7 IS county road 7 so I couldn’t find it. I used a tracker to see where they were and finally got to them. Alan called and said they didn’t like Hwy 7 and were going to get on Hwy 15 using Hwy 141…gravel! I’m sitting at the intersection of Hwy 87. SEE, the spreadsheet IS written in sand!

After a couple of breaks they wanted east of Winthrop on Hwy 19 As I was sitting there a couple pulled in with a couple of riders to mow. The man put on ear protection but the Lady didn’t use any. IF they weren’t older than the Director of safety, he would have suggested her using some too.

After a break it was decided to ride about 6 miles to E J’s restaurant. I hope I spelled that right. wait there about 30-40 minutes and see if the wind changes direction.
After lunch Alan wanted a 7 mile welfare check so I obliged. While I was waiting for them I FINALLY found the number for one of our high school classmates who lives in Madison and I haven’t seen since graduation day. The break consisted of a phone call to him and of course he was out of town, BUT will be back by the time we get there.

After a short break at Union Hill they were ready to ride 6ish miles and call it a day.
Buck’s quote. Another day of inferior pavement. Headed to the hot tub for therapy.
Al’s quote. I feel beaten. We deviated from the planned route, and paid the price on narrow, rough roads. The deeply-cracked road joints beat me to a pulp.
Day 30. Hutchinson MN to New Prague MN. 70 miles. 2051 feet of climb.
