They are off at 0804 with a temperature of 65° and cloudy. They wanted 10 miles as a warmup. They didn’t even make it out of the parking lot and I received a phone call needing supplies. The Jethro Belt didn’t get packed! That’s not all that was forgotten, the pew pew & Gardettos were also left behind. It was discovered three miles into the ride that the ride with gps hadn’t been started. We got them set with the exception of a water that was put in the freezer last night instead of the fridge.

I pulled over four miles in and they rode on passed. they wanted 10 miles but there wasn’t a place to turn off there, but the map had us turning at 11 miles so that’s where break will be. Hwy 33 was busy but had a wide & smooth paved shoulder. At the break they both commented on what an easy 10 miles that was and how smooth it was. After about 10 minutes they were back on the way for another 10 miles. This time they got to see their old friend, HIGHWAY 12! Also they knew there were a couple of hills today. This first one appeared to me to be all downhill. There was water across the road which was unavoidable for them due to the amount of traffic.

Next stop is Sauk City Riverfront Park which isn’t to far from Mosquito Island. alan wanted a small bag of ice to partake in some ice water. By the time I got that and got to the park they were arriving. Time is 1100.

After we left the park they wanted another 10 miles which I stretched to about 10.5. I did visit with a couple who were in the middle of nowhere in their bikes trying to decide where to go. They were local folk out for a joy ride. I told them about the birthday party riders and wanted to know if they were young. I told them they would have to define that and they didn’t classify them as young. The guys did get a break before they got back on Hwy 12. The original spot I had for the break was in a gravel field entrance with full sun. I opted to backtrack and get them in a shady spot where they could lay down in the road. Only” 17 miles left for the day, most of which is on bike paths.
Alan suggested we meet at Parisi Park. Let me tell you the cottonwood seeds are a flying here! after a short break the hopped back on with only about 6 miles left in the day.
The guys took a bike trail through town & I took Hwy 12 which was like walmart on payday! There have been several folks on the trail though. Off the bikes before 1500.
And another trip to a bike shop for a quick adjustment. It is VERY close to the hotel & next door to where we are to meet our HS classmate, Robin Shepard.
Buck’s quote. Beautiful weather today for the transition back on to the bicycle. Wisconsin has some beautiful landscapes.
Al’s quote. For me, it was a particularly challenging day because overnight I had multiple rounds of vomiting and diarrhea. Starting a bike ride in a dehydrated state is not ideal. Yes. I was very happy to be off the bike today.
Day 35. Reedsburg WI to Madison WI. 59 miles. 2,512 feet of climb.
