Ride Day #37 Raccoon Creek IL to Elgin IL

The guys are getting ready to take off at 0853, full cloud cover at 64°. First stop is 9 miles away where they were supposed to stop yesterday according to the spread sheet.

After about 9 miles they made it to yesterday’s stopping spot. after a break they continued on a trail for 14 miles and another break. They took off and I headed to get bread and chips for lunch.

Roadside Picnic at McHenry County Conservation Area Administrative Offices IL

During this lengthy lunch/sprinkling stop, a motel reservation was made & they were off with a stopping point selected about 10 miles up the road. The route took them right past WM so I decided to drive ahead and pick up some much needed supplies! 22 miles left for the day, most of which will be on a trail.

They rode past this home in Woodstock IL. Do you recognize it from the movies? I didn’t watch the Bill Murray film.

They found a trail and got back in front of me so I called and told them. They said they had found a trail and wanted a break on the left side of the Hwy. I found one and they took a nice break on a picnic table.

Alan wanted to take a break at the Start & Stop…it was a bicycle trail entrance/exit. He thought it might be a convenience store. A short break and only 8 miles, all trail to end the day at Fox River Trail Parking.

Buck’s quote: We played whack-a-chipmunk most of the morning on a non-paved bike trail. I’m happy to report that there were no fatalities recorded on the chipmunk side, or on our side😃

Al’s quote. The annoying headwind turned more challenging. Buck was strong. I was drafting him and in the drops (lower handlebars) to lessen the wind’s impact, and I still couldn’t keep pace. Yes. I was Superwoman to Buck’s Superman. (File photo from Oct 2019 in Metropolis IL)

Day 37. (Near) South Beloit IL to Elgin IL. 68 miles. 2,220 feet of climb. Challenging wind made for a slow day.
