Ride Day #40 Hobart IN to North Liberty IN

They are climbing up at 0740 with a temperature of 80°. Hoping to get 50 miles in before it gets to hot. Third day in a row of some warm weather.

You know it’s hot when you find a bra on the trail

The 1st break was at Dogwood Park in Chesterton. It looked like a nice place with plenty of shade. Alan said he hadn’t gone 2 miles before the first sweat rolled off his nose. After a short break they were back on for another 12 miles to try and beat the heat.

This kid was playing at the park.

After another 11 miles we were to take a break but due to lack of shade I stopped just short of that. The guys rolled in and loaded their bikes. We backtracked a bit in the A/C because they passed a sign they wanted a picture of.

We saw one getting ready to cross!

They had about 12 miles to make it to last night’s stopping point according to the spreadsheet. This next stop IS at that spot. Being a school there aren’t many trees in the parking lot but there are a few.

After a stop there, they wanted 8 miles and re-evaluate. I pulled over at the place with the most shade. Accuweather shows 88° with a heat index of 99°.

They have to be getting really close to the time zone change!

They crossed over another time zone-Eastern.

After a couple more breaks they made it to North Liberty IN

Buck’s quote: Another really hot day…. thankfully, we managed to grind out about 51 miles today.

Al’s quote. It’s good to squeak into the Eastern time zone. Woohoo!

Day 40. Hobart IN to North Liberty IN. 51 miles. 1,394 feet of climb. It was another day of extreme heat.
