Ride Day #32 Red Wing MN to Fountain City WI

As I looked out the window this morning I proclaimed that it was a good day for a ride! NOT the usual it’s a beautiful day for a ride. As they are starting to gear up the mist is turning into sprinkles. They are putting on their wet riding gear. The temperature is 56° and somewhere between a mist & a sprinkle at 0853.

8 miles stretched to 11 miles to find a spot on the right side of the road. Within a couple of minutes of them arriving a shower followed. When it passed they jumped back on and headed out. I asked how far and they wanted 10 miles but don’t stray to far from us was also the order.

Mississippi River
Lake City Harbor

As I’m sitting at a geological marker an immature eagle just flew by.

No big boats or barges were out

They wanted lunch at the Eagle Valley Cafe since the menu showed pie…it was closed. so they peddled on.

The EIGHTH State!

“They have chocolate cream pie! I’ve struck gold!”

Soup & Pie for the riders

After lunch they wanted 10 miles. I found a comfort stop at 8 miles and they said it was to soon as they rolled by. 10 miles was the southern edge of Alma WI. I’m now 17 miles shy of the spreadsheet destination. Somewhere along in here, tech support sent a text that he was on the way up. (I hope I get a nap in before he arrives)

After a couple of uneventful rest stops along the way me made our final destination according to the spreadsheet. Alan didn’t get reservations because he wanted to give it a “roll by” to see if it passed the “eye test”. IT FAILED!

Buck’s quote. Really enjoyed riding the Great River Road today. Very scenic views of the Mississippi. It’s crazy how good the water clarity is this far upstream.

Al’s quote. I’m happy to be in Wisconsin, our 8th state.

Day 32. Red Wing MN to Fountain City WI. 62 miles. 1675 feet of climb. Wet roads for the morning, otherwise good day.

Wisconsin! Epic. Roll on, Big River (that isn’t quite as big so far north).
