Ride Day #48 Confluence PA to Spring Gap MD

The guys are getting ready to take off in a foggy 57°. It is supposed to be partly cloudy with a high of 81° today. They already have lodging for the night but plan on riding passed it and driving back. It will be another gas station breakfast this morning.

I made it to the 1st meeting spot thanks to Tech Support last night on how to use offline maps.

After a quick stop they were headed to the next stop at Garrett. I was able to barter for a bag of ice at the store.

After that break they were headed to Deal. Well there isn’t access to the trail from here!

On top of the continental divide

I’m my grandfather’s grandson & Alan’s friend. I heard people talking in the tunnel below me and had to follow a foot trail to investigate!

SO after being here for about a 1/2 an hour I realized my map wasn’t set to meet at Deal and they had about 4 extra miles to reach me…ooops!

Alan said the stop was only about a mile back.

Lunch was devoured in Frostburg

After lunch they rode on to Cumberland MD to end for the day. We are to meet at the Crabby Pig since there is no trailhead park to park in. Once again they fooled me! After a break they wanted to ride on to Spring Gap since it was so “easy”.

Buck’s Quote: we went from a Cadillac trail to a goat path today. The next couple of days should be interesting!

Al’s quote. The Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) trail is really a first-class trail. We completed the GAP today and entered our 13th state, Maryland. Woo Hoo!

Day 48. Confluence PA to Spring Gap MD. 76 miles. 1,725 feet of climb. Day 2 of the GAP trail plus 11 miles on the C&O Canal Towpath trail.

  1. So, how was the BBQ @ The Crabby Pig? And is that a pork and crab combo? Also, is it all downhill from the Great Divide?

    1. Cjon… we never got a chance to eat there. Once we made the divide we’re dropping elevation at every trailhead.
