– Shortest day = 27 miles (terrible winds)
– Four 100+ mile days
– Only 4 days off due to rain outs or excessive heat
– 4 major mountain passes: Cascades (WA), Bitterroot (ID), Rockies twice (MT)
– Ride was suspended for 17 days due to a death in the family
– 2 bike repairs (bent derailleur and shifter failure)
– 2 bike tune-ups apiece
– 1 flat tire (3 attempts before properly repaired)
– 0 close calls with vehicles
– 1 incident (Buck ran off trail while gawking at flowers)
– 3 near incidents with Sunday afternoon cyclists on trails
– 1 threatening dog
– 1 close call with a road-kill grouse rolling at Al’s wheel
– Visited Three Forks, MT the location of the Missouri River headwaters
– Toured Grand River Museum in Lemmon, SD
– Played a round of golf in Willmar, MN
– Swam in Lake Michigan at Indiana Dunes National Park
– Visited “Touchdown Jesus” on the Notre Dame Campus
– Visited the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH.
– Passed through 13 states (OR, WA, ID, MT, ND, SD, MN, WI, IL, IN, OH, PN, and MD) and the District of Columbia.
– Many new friends
